概要

eigo13

I tried to console him saying “You don’t need to worry about it all. Thebooks were burnt, but it is not your fault at all. It was not something youcould control. Actually, the school knew some of the books would be burnt.”However, he kept worrying about it no matter what I said. After Nobuopassed away, my wound was finally healed enough that I became able towalk again. I went to the school to meet Nobuo’s teacher and I had histeacher take the condolence payment Nobuo requested I pay, explaining hisconcern about the books. Finally, Nobuo started having blood in his stool and vomiting blood. Westarted to think he might not last long. Suddenly, He stuck out hisblood-spotted tongue and showed it to my wife. He said, “Mom. Not only mytongue became like this, but inside here it became all like that too (pointinghis chest). I won’t be able to survive. I will die before you die. So, please giveup on me.” My wife responded saying, “NO. I will never let you die. If you die,I will die soon after you” in a spontaneous way. Hearing that, he said “Pleasenever say such a thing. It’s impossible for me to be alive and I will die beforeyou, but I want you to take care of yourself” in a preaching tone.My wife said, “I was stupid. I was always scolding you. I’m sorry.”Nobuo said, “Mom! What are you saying? You scolded me because youwanted to raise me up properly. I truly appreciate you. Thank you very much. You don’t need to worry about it at all”. Then he gave his final message ofappreciation and goodbye to each one of us, who were besides the bed. Finally, he passed away singing the school song of Ichi Junior High School inhis mouth silently. The feeling I had while we were taking care of him, the sadness tearingmy heart apart, I will never be able to forget these feelings. The images ofthose days appear in my mind clearly, and I still can remember the sounds ofthose days as if it happened yesterday. It is heartbreaking.
